My Favorite Classic Italian Tiramisu

A classic Italian dessert, tiramisu is a delightful combination of coffee-soaked layers and rich mascarpone cheese.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed espresso
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale.
  2. Heat the milk and pour it into the egg mixture, whisking until combined.
  3. In another bowl, whip the cream until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold the mascarpone into the cream gently.
  5. Combine espresso and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  6. Dip ladyfingers in the coffee mixture quickly and layer them in a dish.
  7. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  8. Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  10. Before serving, dust with cocoa powder.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a darker coffee.
  • Let the tiramisu sit overnight for the best results.
